final reflection |
Throughout this semester of painting I have learned alot of things. I learned different painting techniques like doing washes on your canvas before painting. I never even knew the importance of it before taking this class. I also learned how to use various mediums like watercolor, acrylic, and oil paints. Before taking this class I had never tried watercolor or oil paints. I really liked how watercolor was reusable after it dried and how you could layer it to make the colors more opaque. One thing I struggled with watercolor was making sure I didn't add too much water to my paper and causing it to tear.As for oil paints I loved how easy it made to blend colors because with acrylic its very hard to do since it dries so fast. One thing i disliked about it was that it would get everywhere. Other than that I really enjoyed using oils for my projects. I can definitely tell that after taking this class I have gained some skill. Although I know I could have done better on my paintings I can really see the improvement/ skills learned within all of my paintings from this class and from art 1.

Describe the craftsmanship of your painting. I feel as if I could have made the road more neater because if you didn't see the reference photo I feel as if you would not be able to tell what my painting is.
Describe your choice of colors/color harmonies and how you used them throughout the artwork. I used alot of different types of blues in my water and for my rocks i mixed some oranges in there for the shadows. How did you apply textures, highlights and shadows to enhance your artwork? To add texture I packed the paint onto each other for my rocks. I used the same technique for my trees/ bushes as well. I also made sure to add highlights to my water so it didn't just look like one solid color. How were you able to create depth in your painting? I feel as if I added the most depth in my bushes because in the reference picture thats what stood out the most.Describe any difficulties you had creating your drawing and what you could do to improve your drawing? I found it really diffcult painting the road on the side of the moutain because I struggles making even lines and painting everything exactly how it is in the picture. For my pet portrait I decided to paint a pug. Pugs have a very short coat so I kind of found it difficult when it came time to paint the fur. I didn't know how to do short fur strokes and I wasn't able to get the fur color correct. I think the background was the most successful part of my painting. The most aesthetic quality of my painting is probably the background itself. I think I did a pretty good job with it and I found it to be the least difficult thing to do when I did this portrait. I tried my hardest to use the fur stroke techniques from the videos I watched in class and try to mimic the same fur as the original picture. Though it wasn't my best paintingI did learn a lot about fur stroke techniques and this project helped me get more comfortable with oil paints.

(The first picture was my reference picture and the second one is my final project). For my glass painting I learned a lot about painting reflections and trying to make things seem more realistic. I really enjoyed this project because it wasn't like any other project we had done before. Out of all the projects we've done this semester I feel as if this was the most fun of them all. I difficulty that I had was trying to get the proportions the same as the real life setup.

What watercolor techniques proved to be effective in your painting? How and Why?
I found that using little water in the beginning of my sky helped me make a more opaque blue and adding water helped make a nice ombre effect. Another effective technique i used in my painting was using white water color. It helped me make waves as well has make blending colors easier as well. Was color choice an important factor in the overall success of the painting? Why? I personally think that the color choice was a huge factor in the success of this painting because without it you would not be able to understand what i was painting.Using other colors simply wouldn't work well with this scenery. If you were able to do something different what would it be and why? If i were to do something different to my painting it would be using a different technique for my "waves". I feel like if i had watched some tutorials on Youtube on how to make waves with watercolor it would have turned out better. Explain to me what you have learned about watercolor and how it has improved or discouraged your development in art. I don't know why I didn't know this earlier, but I didn't know that when water color paint drys you can still use it by just adding water. For some reason that never crossed my mind when I thought of water color paints. This project helped me understand water color way more than before. I got to learn how to use water color brushes which was a pretty cool experience. |

Describe the craftsmanship of your painting.
I feel as if i could have made the swiggly lines could have been neater in my project. I could have made my windows neater and more symmetrical as well. How does your work embody the artist’s style? I think I did a good job capturing Hundertwassers style by using plenty of colors all throughout my painting. As well as avoiding using straight lines which is not prevalent in his sytle. Describe your choice of colors/color harmonies and how you used them throughout the artwork. For my piece i tried to use colors that often go together with each other. For example the green and purple that i used on one building really went well with each other. What is the emphasis (focal point) of your artwork? The main focal point of my artwork was the pink and yellow "stream". I choose to do this pattern for my " stream" because it just seemed fitting to have swiggly lines since it kind of represents the tiny waves in streams. How did you use textures and patterns to embellish your artwork? I made sure to use a variety of patterns in my painting to ensure that none of the buildings looked the same. I think that by doing this it made my buildings stand out even more. Describe any difficulties you had creating this artwork. I had many difficulties when it came to painting the sky. it was hard making sure the lines didnt overlap each other. I also did not have the best brushes so it made painting thing lines a little bit more challenging. |
